The Year 2007
It is a time when family ‘thinking’ becomes prominent in our lives. My parents visited Santa Fe this past year and it was a particularly joyous event. They stayed at Reeve and Mike’s beautiful house in Tesuque. It was the usual bedlam despite the calculated effort at simplicity. Great grandchildren are the joie de vivre and chaos we need to be human.
I spent most of last summer with my parents and sisters. June is my parents 60th anniversary, 88th birthday and celebration month. One of my parent’s favorite restaurants is La Cremaillere in Banksville NY
was the venue. We have been going there for about 40 years..for our big birthday bashes. This year, Robin and Lindsay’s son, Robert dominated the family photo…He is taller, smarter and more technologically advanced
than we were at his age. In a matter of minutes, he showed me how to program my new I pod. Most of the summer I spent with Wendy, my sister, at her house in Connecticut. We were able to celebrate my birthday kayaking on the Long Island Sound. It was fun being in the kayak and rowing out toward an island off the coast. When do you hear of the important details of someone’s life???…Only when you get to spend quality time with them….Wendy recently shared from her experience in working at her church’s soup kitchen. A mother of two little boys approaches her and asks “I don’t like to ask things like this, but do you think your church could help me buy a tree and presents for my two sons?”a true
moment of incarnation and spirit that is Christmas!!What could have been more exciting for me than to become a grandmother of sorts!!!…Not in my wildest dreams did I guess Grace Nia Gogo would be born exactly on August 10th –my own birthday. There she is Martin and Katie’s little jewel. She is the picture of sweetness, has the heart of a lion and a future befitting her auspicious beginning. Her father and mother twinkle with pride. This little bundle of love is the hope for the future.
